Organizations from Bulgaria, Belgium, and Italy got together in 2021 with the goal to increase the quality and level of participation of young people in equine-assisted therapy. Paint and Quarter Horse Foundation Bulgaria initiated the venture in our effort to build bridges with other youth related organizations and strengthen young people’s role in the field.
The consortium began the journey with in-depth research of equine-assisted therapy in their home countries. After gathering sufficient information we organized an international learning exchange event. It was a chance to exchange experience and create innovative approaches with other equine-assisted therapists, youth workers, young people with special needs and their caretakers. The results were gathered in the YEAT Guidelines that serves everyone interested in equine-assisted therapy.

The YEAT project was our first international capacity building venture. We and our partners managed to increase the competence of our staff and contribute to the organizations’ professional development. The YEAT Guidelines already had an impact on equine therapy professionals from different European countries, such as the Belgium therapist who during the multiplier event shared: ‘’The Guidelines is exactly what I need to be able to explain to the families of people with special needs what is equine-assisted therapy and how it can be beneficial to them.’’
The YEAT Guidelines will continue to be available for free download here. More about the YEAT project you can find here.
We would like to thank all the partners and participants in the project who contributed to reaching its goals. We highly appreciate and thank the young people with special needs and their caretakers who trusted us by taking part in the YEAT events and gave us their highly valuable feedback.
We look forward to continuing spreading the important role of young people in equine-assisted therapy.
