Young Volunteers and Horses Make a Change for Children with Disabilities

Updated: Jan 7, 2021

Patricia, Thibaud and Manon made 2020 a better year!

Despite the COVID-19 situation they came to Bulgaria to help in the Program ''Free Therapeutic Riding for Children with Disabilities''. Two young women and a young man formed the perfect team for the summer of 2020. The three proved they can be relied on and can complete every task with perfection. The young people went out of their comfort zone and helped us in dealing with difficult situations. Needless to say, the children with special needs loved to communicate and play games with the nice foreign assistants.

We hope that the three gained valuable experience, learned more about the Bulgarian culture and, of course, had fun being with us.

We thank Patricia, Thibaud and Manon for every minute they spent helping our organization. And for being so big-hearted, devoted, and thoughtful during the volunteering service. We can only hope that all of our future volunteers will be as good as these three young people.

About the Project

The project offers an opportunity for young people from France, Germany, and Portugal to volunteer in the Program ''Free Therapeutic Riding for Children with Disabilities''.

Our goals are to:

  • Engage young people willing to contribute to the community in order to strengthen it;

  • Teach and promote solidarity, tolerance, non-discrimination, social inclusion, and understanding among the young people;

  • Facilitate development and improvement of professional skills and knowledge in young people to help them in their professional development;

  • Facilitate development of personal skills, abilities, and talents in young people to help them in their personal growth;

  • Create a welcoming environment for cultural exchange for the young people and the local community;

  • Encourage young people to contribute and apply their own ideas;

  • Empower young people to respond to social challenge;

  • Allow young people to become aware of the environment and ways to care for it;

  • Contribute substantially to imrpove the conditions of disabled children.

Young volunteers from different European states will have the chance to come to Bulgaria for two months and provide assistance to the instructors in the Program. Volunteers will learn more about the local culture and gain valuable professional and personal experience.

The activities in the project include:

  • Supporting the instructors in therapeutic riding sessions and in their preparation

  • Assisting with maintenance of the horses and the facilities

  • Participate and execute small projects, such as building a play area for the children with disabilities

The project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps.
