Horses can bring physical and mental wellbeing. It is our mission to make this happen for as many people in need as possible. To make it truly accessible we do that for free - we do not charge participants in our programs. We need supporters to cover the costs for raising, breeding, and training the beautiful therapy horses.

We offer 3 sponsorship levels for donations made per month:

Silver Helper: €10 - €50 covers hay and other food.
Gold Guardian: €50 - €200 covers hay and other food, partially covers veterinary care, pastures, and daily care.
Platinum Hero: €200 - €500 and above covers all expenses for the horse: hay, pastures, extra food, veterinary care, daily care.

Hidalgo is the leading stallion in the herd of male horses. He is named after the main character in the biographical film 'Hidalgo' where the beautiful horse Hidalgo wins the 'Ocean of Fire' race through the Arabian desert. Our Hidalgo is caring and loving. He is respected by the other horses. With his authority and strong nature, he offers the participants in our therapy sessions the opportunity to feel determination and leadership. In the company of people, he is calm and curious about everyone. Hidalgo has a special attitude towards children, loves to be cleaned and brushed.

Hidalgo loves to eat a variety of food, both fresh grass and aromatic mountain hay. As he gets older, he needs additional feed in the winter to maintain his good shape. As a youngster Hidalgo began limping with his front leg. For this reason, he cannot be ridden, but this does not prevent him from participating in therapeutic games and activities in which the participants are on the ground.

Sheza is the most temperamental and at the same time the most reliable of the herd of mares. She is a leader (alpha) with a lot of experience, who gives strength and energy. With a lot of efforts and being in a supportive environment, she managed to overcome old traumas and become a faithful companion to the participants in our therapy sessions. Her rich emotionality resonates with that of the participants. Through contact with her and with the help of facilitators, participants manage to accept and master their own emotions.

With the aging Shiza needs special care for her teeth. She is much more susceptible to weight loss, which requires supplemental feeding almost all year round. Shiza has become a mother several times in her life. Unfortunately, the last foal she gave birth to suddenly fell ill and is now running in the eternal fields. We hope that with good care, healthy nutrition and special blankets for the cold weather, Shiza will be able to experience the joy of motherhood at least once more. We are sure that her successor will one day become a loving therapy horse.

SDENDO - THE GENTLEMAN

Sdendo is one of our favorite horses for therapy sessions. He is gentle and calm and treats all children with special needs with special attention. That is why he is nicknamed "The Gentleman". Sdendo is a great partner in games. His strength is to remain calm when the rider's emotions come to the surface. In the herd of horses, he stands up for himself, but also wants to be with his friends. When the females were pregnant and our little horses were born, Sdendo bravely took on all the commitments for therapy sessions.

On the paternal side, Sdendo carries the genes of the Quarter Horse breed, and on the maternal side, the Thoroughbred English breed predominates. He is fastidious with his food and prefers fresh, newly grown green grass. When the grass has to be replaced with hay, he often loses weight. Therefore, in the fall and winter, he needs additional feed.

Bianca is a young, sensitive mare who, over time, began to overcome her shyness and assert her place in the herd. As a little girl, she always stood to the side, absorbed in eating delicious grass, and was always late and last to come. As she matured, she began to take on more responsibilities. Motherhood changed her completely. So far, she has hardly participated in therapy sessions, but she has started her training and we hope that this year she will actively participate in the therapies. Curiosity and the desire to join in the games will certainly be her strongest qualities.

Bianca is in the prime of her health and strength and needs to be well looked after so that she can help many participants in our programs in the coming years. With a rich pedigree she will be a great dam of future Paint horses that will contribute to better physical and mental health of the participants. Her daughter, Lazy, has already taken this path.

Lazy was born on Midsummer's Eve. Her name is no coincidence - after her birth she preferred to lie down and sleep, instead of getting up and starting to suckle, like the other baby horses. Only after she had rested and slept well did she decide it was time to feed. Lazy is Bianca's first child and, just like her mother, she loves contact with people and is full of curiosity. Kind and confident, she will become part of the therapeutic team of our organization for land activities. It will be several years before she is ready to carry participants on her back. During this time, care and regular training are also needed to grow strong and healthy.

For her tender age, Lacey experienced an unpleasant accident that almost blinded her – she poked her eye in the open pastures. With a lot of help from our veterinarian and the organization's team, she sees well now. Her eyes remain her weak point and require special care. As a growing foal, she will need extra food in the cold months.

We breed and raise our horses with care and dedication. To expand our work, we are in need of a new foal from the breeds ‘’Paint’’ or ‘’Quarter’’. The foal will grow up to be a therapy horse and become a proud mother or father of the next generation of horse therapists.

To reach our organization’s goals, to have our beneficiaries experience free running happy horses, a lot of care and maintenance is being done every day.

At the farm we look after our horses in a way that is close to their natural environment. However, they are still domestic horses. To offer them enough space the land at our farm is rented from different people and the local municipality. It requires upkeeping and proper fencing. To ensure security of the horses in addition to the on-sight team there is an alarm system and 3 guard dogs at the farm. The dogs need to be well-fed, regularly checked by the vet that is deworming and vaccinating them.

Pastures are great for the horses but not throughout the entire year. With the end of the juicy summer grass horses need extra hay. We are able to buy bales of hay from local producers but the prices are still getting higher. Our horses need to eat about 15 kilograms or 25 pounds hay per day. For 7 horses that is 105 kilograms or 175 pounds per day! Our farm has a small creek that offers the horses fresh water at all times. Unfortunately, due to extreme heat in the past years in the summer time the creek dries. We still need to ensure horses have enough clean water as one horse drinks 25 to 55 liters (5 to 15 gallons) per day. That is a lot of buckets of water!

Some of our best therapy horses are now advanced in age. For that reason, in addition to the hay they need extra food. We try to balance between budget food and good quality. We often chose the cheaper option of a seeds mix and pellets of alfalfa. For now, it seems to work well for maintaining horses’ proper weight. The horses grow winter coats that keep them warm even when there is snow and low temperatures. Older or injured horses that struggle during the colder weather are provided with blankets that help them keep warm.

Horses look strong but they are fragile. We have had cases of colic, problems with digestion, injuries of legs, bruises, open wounds, and many more. Very often the vet needs to care for the horses or we give them the necessary medications made especially for horses. For example, one of our baby horses injured her eye very badly. Thanks to the vet care and the medications we gave her every day for more than 2 months she can now see and grow up to be another therapy horse. To increase horses’ life span the vet has their teeth done every year or every 6 months for elderly horses.

Our horses do not wear horse shoes but still need their hooves trimmed regularly. Svetoslav, one of our team members has learned the basics and does it to the best of his abilities, saving our organization big expenses.

Our team works hard every day and night to look after the horses. We that voluntarily because we believe in the cause of the organization. However, the expenses for pastures, food, vet care, horse blankets and other accessories, security and guard dogs is increasing. We need support to be able to continue caring for the horses that provide therapy, were therapy horses once, or will be in the future.
